Service: our server was top notch! He recommended many dishes and made suggestions based on what we might have been interested in. My cup went empty just as he brought me a new cup! AMAZING!! Food: my sister and I shared a plate of many different kinds of shrimp that just rocked! I also at my very first oyster! It was cooked not raw and I loved it! I am always worried about trying new foods but this was great! Don't forget to get some bread off the grill! That was off the hook!

The great thing about living on the Gulf Coast is that your friends from all over the country come to see you. Most of them want to partake in fresh local seafood while they're in town. Some of our friends wanted snow crab legs which obviously aren't found in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico in July. Original Oyster House is one of the few places I know of that offers them, so that's how we wound up here. OOH is never my first choice, nor is it in the top 10. I have been to this restaurant at this location on several occasions, and have never been wowed by the food. On this particular visit, I had the "grilled" tuna steak. There are few things I love more than a fresh tuna steak thrown on the grill and cooked to medium rare. It was apparent from the texture that it was likely fried in a skillet and, in all honesty, it was a bit of a let down. My husband ordered the whole flounder, and he was pleased. I tried it and it wasn't bad, but nothing that impressive. My son had the soft shell crab sandwich, and wasn't crazy about it either. The baked potato, fries, and salad bar were all good. None of the food was terrible, it just didn't taste fresh or local. We paid fresh seafood prices for food that likely came straight off the Sysco truck. So, what earns this place three stars? The service. Our server was amazing! She belongs in a high end restaurant, not a tourist trap. She was attentive, witty, and bent over backwards to make sure everyone in our party of six was completely satisfied. The atmosphere is also fantastic. With the huge windows in the dining rooms, this is a beautiful place to watch the sunset while enjoying a mediocre dinner. The bottom line is, this place is okay for a tourist who's not accustomed to our fresh of the boat seafood. If you're a local, then I probably don't have to tell you to stay off the causeway around dinner time.

We came here since my dad frequented this place before he retired. Let me tell you, their raw oysters are superb! Oh and their Fire Grilled oysters...mmmmmmmmm! Now why 4 stars? Because the last time we went, the 2nd dozen raw oysters were super tiny...I wonder why the huge size difference but it was significant difference and of course we weren't too happy about that. Also, if you want steamed crabs, you are better off going to Biloxi for snow crab buffet...seriously. * Oysters on Half Shell = AMAZING * Fire Grilled Oysters = if you like cheese, this is the plate to order * Create your own platter = I say the best choices are Fried Shrimp, Fried Flounder, Bourbon Grilled Mahi, Grilled Shrimp. The others were good but I would say at best so so... * Steamed Alaskan Snow Crab Legs = never seen such skinny legs...not worth $30 * Causeway Steamer = not worth it overall...snow crab legs - skinny, oysters on the half shell - it looked more like clams and one pound of steamed head-on shrimp - the best part of the plate. * Key-lime pie - not worth $4.50. Yummy but tiny little piece. Overall, this is a nice place to come for raw and fire grilled oysters. Other stuff...well, you probably can get similar quality somewhere else. Ambiance = cozy and fun Food = good Price = fair Service = pretty good

Some good southern eats. In from Cincinnati and stopped in for some oyster and shrimp and grits. Love the variety of the oyster preparations. The Grilled and the Joe Special were great. Killer hushpuppies. Shrimp and grits were good but expected a sauce. Maybe the one I had before weren't as authentic.

The Original Oyster House is located right down the road from the USS Alabama Battleship off of I-10. They serve fresh local seafood from the Gulf. The building is neat looking. It looks like a house on stilts. You have to either take the stairs or the elevator up to the restaurant. There is even a playground. This isn't a touristy place, mostly locals here. You get a view of Mobile Bay while you eat. My aunt lives in Tampa and my Grandma lives with us. When my Grandma goes to visit in Tampa, the Oyster House is our meeting location. This time we drove to get her, but we stopped over night in Spanish Fort. She left in December and all I've heard for 4 months from my husband was eating here and finally we did! Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs that day. We got crab claws, a dozen oysters, Joe and David's Oysters, and Fire grilled oysters. Joe and Dave's were baked in garlic with bacon and parm. The Fire grilled had garlic and romano cheese. They were all delicious, but should have just stuck with the plain ol oysters on the half shell. The others fill you up with all the extras on it. The oysters on the half shell were great. A dozen oysters for $13 is not bad at all. I got the create my own platter and got the stuffed crabs and bourbon grilled mahi mahi. The bourbon sauce was sweet. The mahi was light and tasty. Loved the crabs. The husband got the fried oysters and fried shrimp. My grandma got the crab cake and fried oysters. All was delicious and fresh. As sides I got the salad bar and their famous cheese grits. The grits were good and the cheese was not american cheese slapped down over the grits. My grandma got cole slaw and it was pretty tasty. For dessert, yes after all that food we had dessert. Key lime pie and chocolate peanut butter pie. The key lime was real key lime pie. Very tart the way real key lime pie is supposed to be. The chocolate peanut butter pie was awesome. The kids and I ate it for breakfast the next day. If you are passing through Alabama, Go here it's worth it. 8 hours from Fort Worth to get here. I'd definitely would make the trip just to eat here.

Always a good dining experience. Took clients here yonight. Salad bar was fresh. Shared the fire grilled oysters as an app. Had the shrimp & cheese grits. Both were very good. The table shared the peanut butter pie for dessert. Awesome! Will definitely be back.

Just not impressed. Been here a ton of times and it's just a tourist attraction now. Salad bar is OK. Food mediocre at best. It's sad there is not an AMAZING seafood place on the causeway. Not to me anyways...maybe my standards are too high growing up on the bay.

One part Cracker Barrel, one part McDonalds play land, one part friendly neighborhood bar, all the seafood you could want. It's an odd mix, but works for this two story spot. Nice view of the bay - outdoor seating would have been awesome in Nay, but I'm sure that's a nonstarter most of the year. My kiddo loved the silly rooftop sharks and the playground. And of course, the mountain of shrimp we devoured.

Ate here tonight and had such a great experience! Our waitress Patsy was AMAZING, so sweet, so patient! We loved her. We order the crab claws and the grilled oysters. The crab claws were good but the grilled oysters were SO freaking good! A must have when eating there! The food was great and we got a lot of it. Taking home plenty of to go boxes. Pleas also order the turnip greens! Very very good! Overall, this place was great and we will be eating here next time we are in town. Especially for those grilled oysters!

Only so so. Glad we tried it will not return. The key lime pie is awesome. Real creamy perfectly sweet. I really enjoyed this dessert. The atmosphere is what you would expect, casual and comfortable. The day we came their air conditioner seemed to not be working. Not. Good. Oh well I enjoyed dessert.

This is a good seafood restaurant that has one of the larger menu selections in the area. They have grilled oysters along with the usual raw and fried offerings. Several large seafood platter options along with a nice selection of various fish are available. The crab cakes were certainly not the best I've ever had and the breading on the fried oysters wasn't well done. The gumbo here had a good flavor and was full of seafood. I've definitely had better prepared seafood but not in this area. The service is friendly and usually attentive with occasional slow lags. Overall this is probably one of the better spots in the area and the oysters here seemed less gritty and better than the one's next door at The Blue Gill Restaurant.

We came here on the recommendation of some locals and were excited to try it. When we were greeted, the host walked us to the table without saying a word, throwing the silverware on the table without saying as much as hello or thank you. He turned his back on us and walked away to talk to a busboy without saying a single word to us. At this point, we talked about leaving if we weren't served quickly. The server showed up relatively quickly, so we ordered our food - the favorite oysters, green tomatoes and the Natchitoches Meat Pies. The food was incredibly good. Our server, while pleasant, seemed ready to leave, and we felt rushed. Before we could even finish our meal, they started shutting the restaurant down, even though there were still many patrons inside. My wife went to the restroom, where she discovered that there was food on the back of her shirt. Apparently, when our table was bussed prior to our arrival, food was spilled all over her chair. Disgusting. Maybe if our host had paid the least attempt to check the table, he would have noticed. Our server brought us some club soda to help clean the stain, but we were sort of over the place by then. It's a tourist trap with good food and really mediocre service, and the staff wants to rush you through your meal. Find another great seafood place in Mobile, there are plenty.

Originally wanted to go to Bluegill, but not with 1.5hr wait! So, popped on over to Original Oyster House. On a Saturday night, only a 25 minute wait. Located on the Causeway, right on the water. Walk down behind the restaurant and check out the view of the city. I wish there was outdoor seating...man why don't they have this?! Found this restaurant to be just fine. Nothing blew my mind, but the food was good. Had the grilled mahi mahi sandwich with fries. I don't know if I would order this again...just a little underwhelming. I liked my sides the most. Get the coleslaw and the cheese grits. The soft shell crab plate was ordered as well and this was enjoyed! Our waitress Jamie was attentive and nice. It seemed like there were many people working here...just not sure what they were all doing? Overall, this is a decent restaurant in a great location!

See my photos. Oyster are Great wife had the fish tacos (a bit more Cajun spice then a CA fish taco). The fish por-boy with gumbo was excellent. Nice view great meal and a cold beer. Be sure to visit when in the Mobil area

Our friends wanted us to try some local flavor so they brought us here. We sat in the bar, our server was Jason. Started with oysters, everyone loved them. My honey had the pecan crusted grouper, coleslaw, and cheesy grits. Absolutely loved it. I had the pick two platter, my choices were the fried and the grilled prawns, I had the same sides as above. Excellent! I tried our friends crab cakes. Tasty, tasty! Loved the ambiance and the view. Service started out well, but as the restaurant filled up, our waiter was stretched too thin. Water not refilled and it took a long time to get our bill. And took forever for him to pick up the payment. Definitely would go back again when in the area.

This place had a lot of great reviews so we thought we would give it a try on our trip to Florida. We were SO disappointed. We ordered the seafood trip with stuffed shrimp, fried crawfish, and fish. The fish was dry, the stuffed shrimp not very flavorful, but that fried crawfish was okay. We also ordered a dozen baked oysters. I liked them but my husband noted that the topping overwhelmed the oysters. Service was okay. Atmosphere was nice. My daughter enjoyed watching crabs and insects while we were waiting. We wouldn't go again.

The fire grilled oysters were delicious. I ordered a dozen but received 10 which is a little annoying to have to ask for two more. The shrimp po boy was good. If you like oysters, it's worth the stop.

The first thing I noticed when I walked up to the building was the overwhelming smell of the dumpster. Other than that the food was good. I had the fried shrimp platter. The second negative thing was their peanut butter pie which I ordered with high expectations. What they delivered was a frozen, half thawed piece of pie that tasted like it came straight from the bakery at Winn Dixie. Overall I wasn't impressed and probably won't be back.

We came here after touring the Battleship. We got a table overlooking the dock/bay and it was relaxing to watch the fishermen float by. The crab claws were excellent. If you haven't had crab claws in the South, you must try them. I have not found them outside the South yet so I fill up when I'm home. We had the butter pecan grouper and the mahi special. Both were delicious and flavorful without having a "fishy" taste. The service was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant if in the area. There are a lot of options on the menu for trying various seafood dishes!

Local Spanish Fort native, now living in the Atlanta area - been going here for years and I always seem to go for the gator bites app with a side of grits. NOTE: if you don't like cheese or garlic don't get the grits. As for I, the grits are AWESOME! Great view of the delta too!

A must every time we visit. No to go boxes were needed . Cheddar Grits, fried oysters and the Pecan Cheesecake are the best! Everything on the menu is great!

My husband and I went here on a Thursday evening for dinner. When we walked in, the hostesses smiled and asked how we were doing- something that is not common to most restaurants but appreciated. Our waitress was Margaret, and she greeted us with a smile and provided us with excellent service the entire time we were there. We started off with fried crab claws, and they were by far the highlight of the meal! They gave us a generous amount, but we had no problem polishing them off! For the entrees, I chose Joe and Dave's favorite and my husband had Shrimper's delight. Honestly, the portions were so large that we probably should have split one entree, but it was nice to get a taste of many different things. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the sauces took the meal to another level. Truly, compliments to the chef(s) who made this food spectacular! Our glasses were always full, and we had an absolutely lovely evening! Will *definitely* be back soon.

Ok, the fire-grilled oysters are amazing! I loved them and would definitely order them again! So cheesy and garlicky. I'm totally salivating just thinking about them right now. I also really enjoyed the shrimp au gratin, although the sauce was a bit thin. Still really good though, with a crispy crust of broiled cheese on top... yum. My friend and I shared a dessert- bread pudding, which was really good and wasn't something I tried again. Overall a great experience and the best oyster dish I've had on the causeway!

One of our favorite restaurants. We stop in every time we are in town. Views of the bayou and Mobile skyline are nice. Good salad bar. The fried seafood is good, not too much batter like some places. The crab stuffing for the stuffed shrimp was too much stuffing not enough crab but the dozen large shrimp made up for it. Try the blackened grouper with Crawfish tails.

The best meal we have ever had hands down. We went for Valentine's Day dinner and it also happened to Mardi Gras so needless to say it was packed! However, the girls at the front station were extremely accurate in our wait time and actually over estimated for us. We were pleasantly surprised and brought to our table that was for six. It was great to have the extra room. Our server, Curt, was extremely polite and had a great energy. He let us know all the specials and was prompt to return with our drinks and take our order. He kept us informed on how long our food would take to be out and handled refills, sides, appetizers, and drinks in an extremely timely manner. My boyfriend got the oysters Rockefeller and they were delicious! Fresh, well presented and we even found a pearl in one of them! It was wild. I ordered the parmesan baked oysters and they did not disappoint. They were baked perfectly and the crust was just as perfect as the juicy oyster underneath. My boyfriend ordered the blackened mahi-mahi, fried crawfish, with a type of cream of ham sauce. For sides the loaded baked potato (which was packed to the foil!) and cheese grits (well mixed, real cheese), Highly recommended!!! I ordered the baked shrimp Alfredo which was perfectly sauced and filled with shrimp. I don't think I took a single bite without a shrimp. Baked to perfection. The turnip greens were amazing. The fries were huge A++++++++

As far as price point goes, this place can't be beat. Oyster houser is a traditional gulf coast style waterfront restaurant. I loved it. I went with a colleague and we split this house special oysters which were fantastic as well as gator bites. Then for an entree I had the fried grouper and a baked potato and cheese grits. I didn't care for the grits but everything else was great, including the salad bar. The amount of food you get is crazy My only knock knock the place is the bartending was lackluster. He wasn't overly attentive and forgot things...like silverware. If you want a gulf coast joint with good seafood, this is worth a visit.

All I have to say is Grilled Oyster and Crab Legs heaven. Restaurant was highly recommend by a friend and it did not disappoint.

It was worth the stop. Great service. Your typical gulf coast seafood joint. One that has been destroyed by hurricanes over and over again but reopen and produce good food. I had the tuna and shrimp. It was good with a sweet bourbon sauce. Kids loved their hamburgers and chicken. Side were average. Great salad bar.

I was directed to this place by a local. I wanted to go to another place down the road, but was told this was the best. Our server messed up our order and forgot about several of the items we ordered and had to be reminded on three occasions. The sauce on the salmon was way too sweet (my bad for ordering salmon on the east coast. The oysters on the half-shell may have been good, but I couldn't tell since they were served almost warm (no bed of ice). The fried green tomatoes breading was thicker than the tomatoes. All in all, it felt like a highly commercialized restaurant.

This is the first time here at this restaurant and I have to say the food here is truly great tasting. Our waitress is Patsy and she gets a 3 for the best waitress. Food was great we had fried green tomatoes yum!, and crab claws yum, and than oysters yum, and great service,

Our plates were piled high with great food! Huge plate of fried grouper! My favorite was the grilled shrimp and a side of cheese grits and turnip greens. Delicious and seasoned just right. Service was great and the waitress greeted us with smiles! We will be back soon. We love some fresh seafood!

NO STARS!! Absolutely the worst food and service I've ever received. It took 34 minuets for our appetizer to come out. Mind you this is not during any sort of rush. Also our food came out with our appetizer not to mention the people sitting behind came at least 15min after we got our drinks and their food came out before ours. The manager was not at all apologetic and didn't handle the situation properly. Being some one who's the service industry for over 11 years. I find this highly unacceptable to the point I downloaded this app just to write this review

We stopped by this past Saturday night (the weekend before Mardi Gras) in search of some seafood for my hubby. This place is very "beachy" but it's huge. We had to wait quite awhile due to how busy they were, but there's plenty of room to mill around outside and the sea breeze was very nice. Once we got a table, I ordered a huge pina colada and hubby had a beer. We started with fried pickles as it's one of my favorites. It did not disappoint! I had planned on eating a cheeseburger or chicken sandwich (allergic to shellfish, don't really care much for fish fish). I decided to go out on a limb and get the Butter Pecan Crusted Whitefish. It was so, so good! It was very mild and easy to eat for someone who isn't a big fish eater. I had sides of fries and red beans and rice. I didn't care too much for the latter; I thought it lacked spice. I was also getting pretty full. My husband had fried shrimp and ate the whole thing in about 3 minutes! Service was great despite how busy they were. We will definitely come back once we're in Mbile permanently. It would be a great place to bring out of town guests.

  • Gary G.

Dinner at the Original Oyster House, this place is a classic Seafood Restaurant with appropriate decor. Our server was attentive and professional. The food was good old seafood at it's best, the only thing missing was an outdoor eating area for those of us that would rather be outside.

  • E L.

Went here on a Friday night wanting seafood and was very disappointed. I had the chargrilled oysters which were not bad. We also had grilled shrimp and shrimp poboys. I wasn't expecting greasy popcorn shrimp on a soft buttery bun and flavorless grilled shrimp. Their are better options in Mobile to choose from for seafood. Out of town folk not having access to seafood regularly may find this place amazing. I know for sure I won't be returning.

  • Paige J.

I don't know how this place has four stars because this was one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. Came here with a large party and were seated almost immediately so I can't complain about that. As far as the food, YUCK YUCK and YUCK. The salad bar was ehh. Definitely not much to choose from. The deceiving yet disgusting rolls that are on it taste like a ball of undercooked yeast. The crab cakes are double breaded and taste like flavored mush. The grits are TERRIBLE. I mean literally everyone at our table looked at them, tasted a bite, and pushed them to the side. I forced myself to eat my stuffed shrimp but didn't enjoy them at all. I could go on and on but I'll stop here.

  • Lilly Y.

Good seafood! As an out-of-towner, I always want to eat fresh seafood as much as possible while at the beach. And this place had plenty to choose from. I had the grouper tacos, served with a yummy mango salsa. So good! For my sides I had turnip greens (good, nothing to write home about) and potatoes (boring! Three small boiled potatoes in skins on a plate). I recommend getting their red beans and rice as your side because it's made with the delicious (and MSG-ridden) Conecuh sausage. If you don't know Conecuh, then order this and get to know them. It's worth your time. And, their cheese grits were fantastic- creamy, tasted homemade and didn't have a cheap slice of American cheese slapped on top because the cheese was mixed in. If you come and you have to wait, be prepared to wait outside under the restaurant. The bar area is small and looks like it would get packed quickly. It was super cold outside on the day we went, and most of us weren't dressed appropriately!

Awesome place!!! Great seafood and service. We really enjoyed the resturant. It was kinda gimmicky but the food made up for it. Hands down fire grilled oysters was mvp of the night. These oysters on the half shell were grilled and covered with cheese. Total mind blow!!! We also had the flounder stuffed with crab. Stuffed shrimp and crab. The sides were very good. Red beans and rice, cheese grits and cole slaw. Our waitresses was always on time with refills and very nice.

If your ever in the mood for good seafood, and your in the area....this is a must stop on your way through. Bbq shrimp app is awesome....causeway steamer is shareable and delicious, and of course a cold beer always goes great with it. Dig in cause your gonna get your hands dirty.

Absolutely the best seafood ever!! My husband, Drew had the "Man vs Food" platter. His words to me this is off the chart. I had a traditional seafood platter. Also, the coleslaw was the bomb. The service we received was excellent.. There is nothing more rewarding that being served with a beautiful smile, and genuine positive love for your job. Go check it out, enjoy the scenery, the food and the service. No regrets here.

This was my second trip out here and I only ended up here because Bluegills was closed. They have added flame grilled oysters to the menu which is why I decided to give them a second try. The oysters weren't quite as good as Acme or Bluegills but still very tasty and I would recommend them. I also ordered the blackened shrimp with cheese grits which were also quite good. The portion size was ridiculously large so come hungry! The salad bar is a bit above average but was disappointed in the fact that they only have iceberg lettuce. Red beans and rice as a side item were delicious! Service was great, overall this place is a good value for your money and flavorful enough to make it worthwhile.

Absolutely delicious. The waitress at our hotel bar suggested this place, and it was fantastic. We ate here twice in one week and weren't disappointed in any of our choices. We tried the crab stuffed shrimp with cheese grits and turnip greens, peel and eat shrimp with new potatoes and corn on the cob, and crab legs with red beans and rice and grits. I'll admit that the conversation came to a complete stop while we sampled each dish. It may seem strange to focus on cheese grits at a seafood place, but they are that good. Ordering the grits are not an option, they are a must. We opted for the peanut butter and chocolate chip pie and the bread pudding for dessert. I loved the pie and the pudding earned rave reviews as well.

The service is as great as the food. A must have, is the fried crab claws. And you make your own cocktail sauce. Our server Lori was spot on in her recommendations. Thanks everything was delicious and don't forget your T shirt.

First of all, am no expert in southern food. Apparently, this is the spot to be on a weekend evening. We had to wait almost 30 minutes just to get a table and the place is huge. I got the crab cakes with shrimp. It was really just okay. Very simple average food. The cheese grits were so cheesy I can see how, if I ate this everyday, in 20 years my hips would be wider than a door frame. Turnip greens were boiled vegetables. The fish dishes look okay but again, not really anything special to me.

I love this place! We've been coming here for 20+ years on our way to Florida. It's more of a tradition than a gastronomic event. The food and service are good. The oysters are FABULOUS! In our homogenized chain restaurant culture, it's refreshing to have a go to restaurant that has its own vibe.

Original Oyster House is your average seafood restaurant. The seafood is not all the freshest tasting which is not surprising given the volume of people the place services. The gumbo was a thick tomato but lacked fresh seafood flavor. One in our party got grilled seafood and some pieces were fresh and others tasted just so-so. The kids said the burger and chowder were good. The salad bar was well maintained but nothing special. Service was friendly and efficient. We had to wait 15 minutes for late lunch on a Saturday. Original Oyster may appeal more to those not accustomed to fresh cooked seafood.

Sunday night I had dinner with Finn and Victoria. The wait was only ten minutes. We were greeted by a friendly and bubbly waitress Stephanie. She served our drinks quickly. She explained all the specials. We ordered gator bites as an appetizer. The salad bar was well stock with fresh appealing items. My stuffed flounder was hot and very tasted. She quickly went and gave us more lemon wedges for our fish entrees. Finn ordered the tuna special. Stuffed and made to his likening. The boiled potatoes were hot and tasty. French fries were hit and crispy. The special sauce was very tasty. Victoria ordered the Mahi Mahi special. It was a nice size fillet. Served With a tasty bourbon sauce. The fried shrimp was served hit and fresh. Sides were. Potatoes and collard greens. Overall experience was A++++. Stephanie made our dining experience wonderful. Nice end to a great weekend. Original Oyster House Rocks!!!!! We will return!!!!

This place is hopping on a Saturday night, but all the staff hustles, so we only had to wait around 10 minutes to be seated. Our server was extremely attentive and was constantly checking on us and taking care of things we hadn't thought to ask for yet, but had such a laid back attitude it didn't feel rushed. Food was amazing. We don't typically do appetizers, but wanted to try the fire grilled oysters which did not disappoint. I had the Bayou Blackened Mahi which was good and my wife had the steamed shrimp which she also liked. We both loved the cheese grits. Having lived in the south for most of my life, I've had my share of grits and these we're among the best I've ever had. Would definitely go back.

Service at this place was great. Several states were visiting for dinner as part of our national meeting. We had a great time and I must say the food was pretty good as well. The my could have had more a limitless more favor but it's worth visiting.

We went here on accident one night. Yeah I know..... Sounds weird but we were thinking it was a different place, was looking forward to live music and then someone said they wanted crab legs so we stayed. Anyway, I'll run through it quickly. and just list my issues with it. 1. No live music 2. Nothing special to look at compared to other places on the causeway. 3. Long wait 4. Nothing to do during the wait. 5. Many empty tables we wondered why we couldn't sit at only to end up being seated at one of those tables. 6. Asked 5 times to change it from tennis to a baseball game only to FINALLY find out they don't carry that channel. Had I known that in the beginning we may not have stayed so I feel like I was lied to. 7. Food was decent but not great. 8. Prices were crazy high. Talked us into the special (it was bad). Remember I mentioned the crab legs? Market price? 30 bucks. WOW 9. I wanted the Man vs. Food platter, I assumed it would be expensive but...... also 30 bucks........ 10. Salad bar will round out my list at 10 with the only thing I actually enjoyed here... Yeah, I don't think I'll be back. But that's just me....

Great service and food. We ha charbroiled oysters. They were HUGE and delicious! Patrons were raving about cheese grits.

Stopped by while in town to run the Mobile Marathon. The oysters were delicious. Laid back atmosphere and a decent place to eat. I would recommend if your travels take you to Mobile.

Great seafood place. Service was great. Seafood was good. Fire grilled oysters - to die for. I love oysters for years but only ate raw, thinking that cooked oysters are nonsense... These guys have a TV/cam where you can see top view of the grill. So being in the great mood and feeling adventurous I decided to give a try to half a dozen. Ended up ordering two more dozens for our table. They are not really cooked much, just shell is grilled with some shredded cheese. But added taste/smell is phenomenal. Reminded me some of Japanese cuisine techniques... So try Fire grilled oysters if you haven't!

Very fresh and good seafood. I enjoyed shrimp and grits, my daughter had mahi down on da bayou, & the hubs had steamed shrimp. All was cooked perfect. I usually ask for light on the blackening on my fish but forgot this evening & it was still good for me. Tried gumbo before our meal & it was loved by all in the family we will definitely stop by when passing thru mobile again

Enjoyable, for sure - who doesn't like eating fresh oysters with a (partial) view of the Gulf? But compared to other options on the causeway (namely, Felix's), I would say this was good but not the best. In terms of beer selection, they have SweetWater 420 and the typical big-name domestic drafts. The oyster sampler was rich, the key lime pie was more sugar than lime. I ate at the bar, friendly but slightly distracted service. However, compared to Felix's, which was packed and loud (thanks to live music, which was enjoyable!) this was a more relaxed experience.

I grew up on the Texas coast and this reminds me of the little privately-owned restaurants we used to go to that served fresh, locally caught seafood. Traveling back to Texas from Florida, we stopped at the Alabama Welcome Center and asked about restaurants in the area. They recommended this place and gave us a coupon for a free appetizer or dessert. We had a great meal. My wife got shrimp and I got a platter with oysters, shrimp, fish, and crab claws. I can't remember the last time I ate crab claws! The batter was excellent: sort of a tempura-like quality that went well with the seafood. The sides and hush puppies were great. Sides included red beans and rice and cole slaw. Definitely try the red beans and rice. There was plenty of food and the price was reasonable for a seafood dinner. We had key lime pie and bread pudding for dessert. Both were very good. We will definitely come back next time we get a chance.

Gumbo and fried crab claws is the best. Try the flame grilled oysters, they are fantastic.

Another place recommended to me on my recent trip to Alabama...and of all the recommendations I liked this one least. I'm guessing it might be better if you're ordering fried seafood, but this girl doesn't do fried. It just looked like a "fried" kinda place. The gumbo was decent. My server at the bar was great. The rest? Eh. Nothing memorable and after eating at some very memorable places in this area later in the week this place became completely forgettable.

So normally, i would not wait an hour plus to be seated but with the traffic issues in mobile having frazzled me to the bone, we were not going elsewhere. Waited 30 min just to get a seat on a bench and when we finally sat, wasn't long before a bartender came and offered us two dining seats at the bar, which we took. Glad we did! He suggested absolutely the best grilled paremsan and garlic oysters I had ever eaten! The Gumbo had a great flavor, the steamed shrimp were over cooked and a bit dried out, only thing is we hadn't eaten there before so i didn't know you had to make your own cocktail sauce, nor do I have arms with a 6 foot reach. The oysters were worth any other hassle though!

After the awful experience we had at Felix's my wife and I were looking for a better seafood restaurant to help us forget about them. Unlike Felix's we didn't have to wait long to be seated at The Original Oyster House even though there was a good sized crowd there that day. I had an oyster poor boy and my wife got the seafood platter. Food was excellent and the service was great!!! Even the manager came out and asked how things were and gave us a service card to fill out. Bottom line we were very impressed with The Original Oyster House and we'll definitely be going back!

Being from NY, the Oyster House was recommended from some local colleagues. No restaurants on Battleship Parkway would take reservations at 7pm on a Wednesday night, so we took a chance and the staff went out of their way to make it work. With 12 of us, we ate just about everything. Oysters were great, food overall was very good. For an out of stater, this place was exactly what I was looking for. Extremely reasonable prices, good food and a warm and fun atmosphere!

I eat here nearly every time I visit my parents. They love it. I love it. Excellent salad bar with a lot to choose from, endless glasses of cold, iced tea, and the steamed blue crab claws are to die for. The fried dishes can be a little overwhelmingly fried, so mix it up with some steamed items, salad, or a side of cheese grits or their amazing seafood gumbo. Never a disappointment!

What can I say about this place.... Well my hubby and I took my mother and father in law here last weekend for dinner. It was busy, but we got a table quickly. The waitress was nice enough but was all over the place and took forever to take our order. I got the grouper tacos, ate the first one... Pulled small bones out of my mouth as I ate, I thought maybe it was just this one cause they were very tasty, the second had bones.... Well needless to say I didn't finish it. The manager did take it off our bill but I really wanted to eat them. Everyone elses meal was good enough. The salad bar is really good! Eat at your own risk.lol

This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend from the Mobile, AL area and it did not disappoint. I LOVED this place. In fact, I loved it so much I actually bought a t-shirt. I visited the Gulf Shores store. First, this place has a quite a wait, but it was worth it and the staff did their best to keep the crowds moving, while never making you feel rushed through your meal. The salad bar was small, but very good. It was nice since I had not seen one in a restaurant in quite some time. Took me back to the 80's. The Cheesy Grits with Blackened Shrimp was AMAZING!!!!! I seriously recommend it. Plus Joe and Dave's Alligator Bites were bliss. But for me the best part of the meal was the make your own cocktail sauce, Each table is given a bottle of ketchup, lemons, small containers of horseradish and larger empty containers. Mix all these things together and add a little more of horseradish, etc, and you have your own ideal cocktail sauce. Don't forget the hushpuppies. They were some of the best that I ever had. After I returned to Texas I saw on Facebook where a friend was in the Gulf Shores area and I suggested The Original Oyster House, she loved it too. I dream of going back!

After a pretty horrible drive down to Gulf Shores, pretty much missing the wedding I had been looking forward to for a year and razor burn I was in a what we will call bad ass mood. Luckily I had my old bestie with me that I had not seen in 5 years, and an Original Oyster House destination to end the night. Oh wait, I forgot to mention he let me drive his bad ass BMW. (Didn't even have to ask) Of course the restaurant was packed. Our wait was probably about an hour. We ordered two drinks while we waited. He had a beer and I had a sex on the beach. The drink was perfect and fruity, and went extremely well while we sat outside on some steps overlooking the Mobile Bay. The sun was setting and there were even some fishing boats. Add pussy willows lining the bank and that makes for a pretty nice view. We ordered a looooot of food. To start, gator bites and crawfish tails. Delicious as always. For entrees we had the Mike's grilled shrimp with a salad bar and cheese grits. My absolute favorite dish on the menu. And the cheese grits are just so ooey gooey cheesy goodness. He had the mixed platter. Came with oysters, crab claws, shrimp and flounder. What a nice friend to let me have some crab claws. Somehow he convinced me to try an oyster. I have it in my head that I hate oysters. I liked that one, but don't tell anybody. Our server was nice and never let our drinks go empty. Once again a wonderful dinner with a wonderful friend. Made my crappy day just a little less crappy.

Our group had to wait for ~30 mins before getting a table w/o reservation, but we can entertained ourselves by going around and seeing the stuffs in the gift shop. Tried the yellowfin tuna with hollandaise sauce with cheese grits and coleslaw sides - the fish are pretty good, not stood out tho. Don't like the cheese grits, although the menu made it sounded like the most famous side that they have. If you choose salad as your side, you'll get an all-you-can-eat salad bar, although the selections aren't very many.

Imagine this. I live in Florida and travel often where they catch fresh sea food daily, however this place has the BEST SEAFOOD I have had in my entire life! It has to do something with the water. All seafood was fresh. I took client there for lunch under their recommendation. (They live in the area and would know a good place to eat) It was so good, I took my family there later that evening. You will not be disappoint as with the case with so many restaurants that sell "fresh seafood". Oysters were good, so was the shrimp.

Went here on a Friday night on a recommendation as an alternative to Wintzell's. From the start, Oyster House gives off the vibe as a run of the mill fried seafood joint. The bar was full, but 2 seats did open quickly. Bartenders work hard to get people seated. Did not care for how many kids (like under 10) were seated at the bar. Gumbo was above average, lacking some flavor, but was loaded. Raw oysters great. Tuna was overcooked and dry. Sides were uninspiring. Unfortunately, I see no reason to pick this place over Wintzell's.

The food was good generally. It was a seafood platter and it was not greasy. The fries were nothing extra special. The cole slaw was edible, but not much more. But as I sat without anything left in my water cup, and that is all I had to drink, I did not get served. I sat for at least 3 minutes when she came and asked the obvious, if I wanted more water. I said yes. Then my waitress went directly over to another table to take an order and after a good while, she came by and asked me if I wanted water to go. I told her no, I wanted water now. At that point she could figure out that I was irate over the lack of service. Her tone was, after that, fakely polite and forced. Generally insulting, like it was my fault she did not serve the table. So, food decent, service as bad as I had ever seen in a restaurant. A generally bad experience. I would have written the restaurant, but there is no email address on their site.

we tried to get into felix's but it seemed as though the entire city of mobile was there. i was so sad because i heard that they have some amazing seafood. we had passed by the oyster house and it ended up being a pretty great alternative! the server was super nice, and everything was brought out in good time. my dinnermates let me order, so i had fun picking things that i had been wanting to try. we got the following: shrimp and grits, the oyster sampler, grilled mahi, and lots of raw oysters. so i'm not a huge fan of raw oysters, and always pass because i don't like the smell, especially if they're not fresh and so clean clean. but i was in alabama and said what the heck, and i must say that they're pretty gdarn good. i won't hesitate to eat them back in the tri-state. my fav dish of the night was shrimp and grits. wow, it was a great combination of carbs and grilled seafood. SO GOOD. all in all, the original oyster house was a pretty great introduction into southern seafood.

Why is it that the only thing I've ever eaten here, after 27 years, is a Shrimp Po Boy? Ok, that's not entirely true, one must always start with Raw Oysters.

Good Mamas, this place is delicious and darn consistent. The service is very sharp and fast. The bartenders are friendly and quick. A good casual restaurant that will please just about everyone. This last time I sat at the bar since the dining room was pretty well filled up. Gumbo came up super quick. It has a hearty, deep brown roux. Very, very good. You'll want a second cup. The boiled shrimp were good. Shrimp large enough to do battle with Godzilla, well seasoned and piping hot. The greens were nice, but missing something. I was too full to even start on the cole slaw. The meal was great. Never a disappointment to hit Oyster House whether its for lunch or dinner. This should be a must to eat at. Enjoy!

My sweetheart and I have lived most of our adult lives in NYC with its wonderful array of fabulous restaurants both large and small. We love to eat and know and love good food. This was excellent. Friendly, boisterous, watch your large oysters shucked in front of you. Like oysters? Go here.

Stopped here on our way to New Orleans. The location is great as well as the ambience. The food was so yummy. We had the clam chowder, crawfish tails, oyster sampler, and the Local's Choice platter. The best was the clam chowder and the fried crawfish tails with the gator sauce.

This is a seafood joint that is one hurricane away from being washed away. It is at the midway point between Mobile and Daphne on a 500 yard wide strip of marshy land on the northern edge of Mobile bay. You cruise into the parking lot from hwy 90, which takes up most of the land not occupied by the oyster house. Adjacent to this, Interstate 10 had to be built as a giant bridge over the water. The restaurant looks like a highly decorated beach house on wooden stilts. Before heading up the stairs to the dining area, check out the record breaking (~1500 lbs) hammerhead shark mold looming over the groundlevel waiting area. The restaurant itself is full of pictures of fishing trips and the aftermath damage of numerous hurricanes to previous manifestations of the oyster house. Lunch is the best time to go here because of their well stocked salad bar, as well as my favorite lunch special, the shrimp and grilled cheese sandwich with a cup of their superb gumbo. Before coming here I had never even thought to put shrimp in a grilled cheese sandwich! It is a very good combination.

Great atmosphere with a "beach shack" feel. Try timing your dinner with sunset to watch the sun sink behind the Mobile skyline over the bay: just lovely! I've been here with a large group and the server was friendly and accommodating. I love the fried shrimp and cheese grits. Unfortunately, they don't make their own cocktail sauce here, but there is horseradish and ketchup on the table for you to mix your own.

Building and location were good. Not clean enough for me - plates delivered dirty, glass door refrigerators dirty. Wait staff were attentive. Appetizer - mozzarella sticks - great Sides were good. Main courses were average to poor. We had shrimp trio - overcooked head on shrimp, mikes shrimp were flavorless. Sadly ,, the fried shrimp were the highlight of the meal. Would not recommend this to friends. Gets 3 stars

Food is relatively good, however it just isn't the high quality. I used to go to it a long time ago, and somehow something is lost. Beautiful views of Mobile Bay, but its just not the best, but would recommend you try it for yourself and decide. Really need to have better service though.

My husband and I use to love this place , well last night was the last time we eat here. I ordered grilled shrimp, which was dry, tough and bland. The hush puppies and red potatoes flavorless and the coleslaw ok at best. My husband had gumbo and cheese grits which he said were fine except no bread came with the gumbo. Our blond waitress was average at best and when she asked my husband and I if we wanted separate tickets well that was the icing on the cake. No more for us thanks. .....funny I can't add another review after giving this place a second chance, probably because the food was better but the STAFF WAS STILL HORRIBLE. We had a coupon this time and I guess that was the reason for being ignored once we produced the coupon. No excuse for poor service and we tip accordingly

I stopped by here on vacation. Husband gets to crawl around the battleship, I get to pick the lunch location. It was a great pick. I had the lunch platter special thing, it was $10 for crab claws, potatoes, oysters, and shrimp, with red beans and rice. I also tried the tasty key lime pie. I liked the location, they have some nice windows to let you look out at the water. I was happy with the taste, price, and service. Try it! The only odd thing is that the place is up a set of stairs (or elevator) so when you first show up it looks deserted.

The view is good, the decor is excellent, and the food is decent. The staff is friendly, and the manager stopped over to thank us for coming in. A word of caution: Despite the view, this is NOT the place to come for a quiet, relaxing dinner. You might just get stuck next to a table with screaming, ill-behaved children whose parents think their antics are cute. It happened to us. Thank goodness the restaurant serves alcohol!

If brakish water were a candy shop, then Oysters would be junior mints and I'd be diabetic. What in the hell does that mean? I dunno... but what I do know is how good this place is. This is another place I always hit when working in Mobile. I keep hearing about some of the others in the area but can't seem to pass on what I know is guaranteed! I tend to order king sized portions of food and still tack on the salad bar! From the oysters to the grilled fish to the po boys... you really can't go wrong here.

Easily the worst calamari we have ever tried to eat. Mostly fried flower and no calamari. The fresh tuna steak was hard, dry and chewy. If this was not the worst fish dinner we've had, it is a bottom 2 finalist. It would appear a new manager is trying to increase his profit margin by lowering the quality of his product at the expense of the restaurant's hard earned reputation. Of course when he bankrupts the place, he or she moves on to ruin another business. Or maybe the manager was on vacation for a few days.

Based on the yelp reviews of this place we hunted it down while we were passing through Mobile. We are so glad we did because it held up to the reviews. Although I really wanted to get the Mahi Mahi, I ended up with the fish and chips. My husband got the fried seafood platter. Although it wasn't the quickest restaurant we've been to, or the least expensive, it was worth it on all accounts. My fish was fresh and tasted great. They gave me a huge portion to with 3 battered fillets and fries. I loved their tarter sauce and it tasted homemade which I enjoyed. My husband also enjoyed his seafood platter, but in retrospect we probably could have split it as it was a lot of food for lunch. Definitely worth a stop!

Great seafood restaurant. I was first introduced to the Oyster House several years ago when they were still at the building that now is home to Tackey Jacks. Good good, Great decor. Expect a wait when you arrive but that's a good sign, right? You won't be let down.

My family and I accidentally stumbled upon this restaurant when we were partially lost in the area, and we were sure glad to be lost here. This is a beach themed restaurant located near Mobile Bay. Each entree was very flavorful and portions were very generous. The only strange thing about this restaurant is the setup. I almost thought they were closed when we arrived.

I am not a real fan of Oysters, but I had a few steamed oysters (**** stars) that were off the chain. Their clam chowder (**** stars) was on of the best I ever tasted and the gator bites (***** stars) were so flaky and tender that I was tempted to order a second order as my entree. For my meal I had a seafood penne pasta (**** stars) which had a generous serving of blackened shrimp and scallops. For my sides I had the corn on the cob (*** stars) and salad bar (*** stars). My friends tried had the grouper which the said was excellent and tried cheese grits for the first time. They also had the raw oysters which they said were fresh and tasty and mahi mahi was good as well. I would recommend getting their before the dinner rush, we walked in and were seated within ten minutes, but as we were walking out, we were mobbed by more than 25 people waiting to be seated. It is a tad pricey, but its not that bad when you take into account that you are getting quality, fresh seafood. Make sure you come ready to eat because the serving size will leave you splitting at the seams.

We made pit stop here on the way back from the beach and had a great experience. Fresh seafood, friendly service. We'll definitely stop in again. The playground under the building is adorable -- and it's the perfect way for little kids to get their wiggles out on a road trip.

This is a local favorite. It is easy for the traveler to get to IF they know how to get there! The simplest way is to get off the Bayway when you are halfway across and turn right onto the Causeway (ground level road) Go about two miles and look on the left. You can't miss it. It is well known for all seafoods. Enjoy the peanut butter pie as it is a favorite. Service is most often good. Great salad bar...probably one of the best in the area.

I tried this restaurant based on wonderful reviews I saw on the Internet that said this was one of the best oyster places in Mobile, AL. Overall, the food is so-so and overrated. It's very family friendly and has a nice view overlooking the gulf. Fresh oysters were the only good thing. All other dishes we tried were so-so to not good including the fried oysters (miniscule and tasteless -- they really don't know how to cook oysters at all), the swiss chard side (overcooked), grilled cheese sandwich, seafood gumbo (bland and just barely tolerable). The salad bar was not too bad for $5.99 -- probably a decent price all things considered. If you've a hankering for seafood or oysters, unless you're only eating raw oysters and nothing else, I'd suggest going elsewhere. We picked this over Wintzell's (which Andrew Zimmern featured in his Food Network show) and should have tried that instead or some place else.

I was on biz trip and locals took me there 3 times. Excellent food like everyone said, but do try gator meat it taste excellent. Also the desert is excellent, my favorite is Key Lime pie. They always serve big portions so you never leave hungry. It's a rebuild of Original Oyster House after Katrina, but I think owner still the same just different location.

Nice selection of seafood, all seemed fresh. A few other choices if you don't care for fish but it is a seafood place after all! Big bar (actually 2 bars) and good prices on drinks and beer. Meals were great, was there on a Saturday night, had a 45 minute which was exactly what the hostess told us it would be, which was fine. The "Ya Ya" shrimp app was really good as were both dinners. Key lime pie was also very good.

Some of the best to taste is here! My first visit to The Original Oyster House was a few years back when we were visiting from Texas. I have not always been a seafood lover but I remember when we were done with dinner looking to my husband and saying, "That was one of the best meals I've ever had"...trust me he was stunned. Well now we've moved out here and we frequent about once a week. Usually on Tuesdays when kids eat free. But we will go out just my husband and I on a nice dinner date every now and again. The atmosphere is very alive and exciting, the wait, depending on when you go can be long at times. But if you have children do not fear there is a HUGE sand play place down stairs for them to play while you wait. It is a ton of fun for the kiddos. They also typically have someone making balloon figures, animals as well. The food is phenomenal, I typically order Mikes Grilled Shrimp, have it blankened for extra flavor. My husband orders the Pecan crusted Sutchi, now I'm not a huge fan of fish in general but let me tell you, I think I'm going to order that next time we go! It is amazing. The portions are generous in size to say the least and the salad bar is one of the best! Service is top notch, sometimes on busy nights it might be a little slower than normal but nonetheless it's still at a minimum good service everytime. The prices are decent and you definatley get more than what you pay for. Overall, this is my favorite seafood restaurant because of the atmosphere and excellent food. There is nothing else like it on the Bay.

I was brought to the Original Oyster House by a local, and had a great experience overall. This place is a big shack up on stilts with a lot of character. We started out with the spicy steamed blue crab claws and a couple of domestic bottled beers. The crab claws were served ready-to-eat, cracked open and hanging by 1/2 the claw. We got a big plate of 'em that we didn't even finish. They were spicy and very delicious. In the spirit of getting a true southern experience, I ordered the blackened shrimp with gritz. For sides, I ordered the turnip greens and slaw. It was pretty good, but I wasn't totally blown away. Eyeing some of the other dishes served around me, I'd say it would be wise to order something else (like the steamed assortment plate or something). Perhaps the gumbo would be a safe bet too (they sell containers of it to go, so i'd hope it's good)! The staff was friendly and tried to be attentive, but they were a little over-burdened. Also, I feel this place would be a lot better with a couple of great beers on tap (is there a local beer in Mobile, AL?). I would definitely reccomend checking this place out based on interesting ambience alone.

Great Seafood, some of the best crab claws & gumbo in Mobile. Great place to take visitors to our area when they want local seafood. Always crowded after 6:30 pm so relax and wait.
